Ørestad, ‘the city in the City’

Ørestad is an urban part of Copenhagen. Despite its relatively young age the modern piece of the Capitol has already gained footing as a ‘city in the City’, with innovative and awarded architecture and numerous cozy, cool and convenient options.

Ørestad has it all. Both all the everyday conveniencies with groceries, daycare centers and educational institutions – along with cafées, coffee shops and restaurants on the small squares and along the canals.

Shopping and entertainment venues of all color are located in FIELD’s – one of Scandinavia’s largest shopping malls with more than 140 different shops. In addition, Bella Center Copenhagen is right in the middle of Ørestad with well-attended conference facilities in an international setting.

Green and Blue nature

In Ørestad the sky is the limit and the radius to natural sceneries is within reach. A short bike ride and you are by the sea at Amager Strandpark, where you can air your kayak or canoe or try out kite- or windsurfing. You can also just enjoy the white sandy beaches along the popular coast line.

One of the world’s largest city parcs, Amager Fælled, is right next to Ørestad and the many rentals. This is where nature gets to stay natural with pasturing cows and sheep, and herds of deers bouncing the savannah like areas.

The history and the architecture

The expansion of Ørestad on Amager in the middle of the 1990s focused on building both high and low in order to draw the nature in between the residential and commercial buildings.

The proximity to the water is obvious with visible canals, water basins and fountains, just as the elongated shape makes Ørestad appealing in proportion to the city’s extensive infrastructure. Several metro stations and convenient gateways ease and simplify transport to the centre of Copenhagen and to further destinations. In addition, Copenhagen Airport Kastrup is a close neighbor to Ørestad.
